Artist's Statement

The architectural heritage of our urban landscape is the main inspiration of Chloé’s work.

Chloé looks for the characteristic feeling of a neighbourhood, focusing on the intricate detail of a snow covered wrought-iron fence, a red brick wall glowing in the afternoon sun, and for contrasts; from grand historical landmarks to the architectural flourishes of a heritage house, a modest storefront.
The etchings and paintings of Chloé give an intimate look at the places we live, now and in the past.

The work is created from specific places, and etched on zinc with nitric acid, often in series or themes or triptych form.  Chloé uses extensive aquatint, inks à la poupée for the several colours on one plate and one passage through the press. Each print in the edition is inked and printed separately on Arches or Rives BFK.

Chloé began etching in Montréal in 1985 at the historic printmakers studio, Atelier Libre de Recherches Graphique  (La Guilde Graphique). Since then, Chloé has produced commissioned editions for Canada Post, Quebec Ministry of Tourism, Université de Montréal, and many others.

Chloé is the recipient of awards from Sooke Fine Arts, BC,  and of special purchases by the Canadian Bureau of Chief of Protocol, and the City of Montreal.

Chloé’s works are in private homes and offices worldwide.
Etchings available from $25 to $300
